Arthur P. Gritmacker, PLS

Arthur’s journey in the land surveying profession began under the mentorship of William Vanderstappen, whose foundational vision for Vanderstappen Land Surveying, Inc. continues to guide the firm today. Starting as an instrument person, Arthur steadily advanced through roles including field crew member, CAD drafter, survey manager, and IT manager, ultimately earning his position as President.

He brings excellent project management and customer service skills to the firm and upholds high standards for the practice. Arthur has embraced the foundation Bill built for the company and continues to help it excel by embracing the newest technologies and widening the offerings of Vanderstappen Land Surveying, Inc.

Stephen E. Saylor, PLS

Stephen joined Vanderstappen Land Surveying, Inc. in 2012 as a summer intern. After completing his degree at Southern Illinois University, he began working in the field and eventually transitioned into the office as a Survey Technician.

Stephen consistently applies the techniques and standards of excellence instilled by William Vanderstappen in all aspects of his work. He excels in drafting, and his meticulous attention to detail and commitment to quality have been invaluable assets to the company.

In Fall 2024, Stephen earned his Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) License, marking a significant milestone in his career and further solidifying his role as a trusted professional in the surveying industry.

Terry L. Van Alstine, PLS

Terry joined Vanderstappen Land Surveying, Inc. in 2022, bringing with him over 30 years of expertise in the land surveying industry. He has been a licensed Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) in Illinois since 1993 and in Wisconsin since 1994, demonstrating a long-standing commitment to precision, integrity, and excellence in the field.

Throughout his career, Terry has cultivated a broad and deep skill set that spans:

  • Drafting, calculations, and project estimation
  • Document and title research
  • Monument records and boundary surveys
  • Topographic and ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys
  • Legal description creation and project review
  • Project management and team collaboration

Terry’s work reflects the qualities of a successful land surveyor in Illinois: technical proficiency, ethical integrity, problem-solving acumen, and a thorough understanding of state regulations. He consistently shares his knowledge and professionalism, elevating the standards of our projects and mentoring others along the way.

In April 1994, William Vanderstappen founded Vanderstappen Land Surveying, Inc., bringing with him years of experience and a steadfast commitment to excellence. From the beginning, Bill laid the foundation for a company defined by precision, integrity, and outstanding customer service. His vision shaped not just a business, but a culture—one rooted in trust, collaboration, and a relentless pursuit of quality.

Bill was more than a skilled surveyor; he was a fair and honest businessman whose dignified leadership inspired those around him. He led by example, facing challenges with poise and resilience, and teaching his team that true success is measured not only by achievement, but by character.

As the company grew, so did Bill’s vision. He championed a customer-first philosophy, forging lasting relationships built on respect and reliability. His unwavering commitment to excellence became the standard for every product and service delivered by Vanderstappen Land Surveying.
